Discover Card is adding fraudulent charges added to unsuspecting consumers credit cards. How can it be that this company is allowed to add these charges to my credit card without my permission, and when confronted with my dispute say they have a 'taped recording' of my acceptance.Discover has been charging us $109 per month for their "Payment Protection Plan" which we never signed up for. They claim that we signed up in July 08 which is when we were in Europe, so I know we didn't sign up.
At our request, they did an "investigation" claiming they had a voice recording of us authorizing the enrollment. We asked to hear it and they said that they couldn't share with us. WTF... They can't even tell us if it was a male or female on the phone. What kind of business are you running, Discover? We would really like to discover who, if anyone, authorized this. We are out over $1,000 and I personally would really like to have that money back.
Can this be legal?

3. Written by Red Hot Mad consumer, on 08-03-2010 14:37 I have experienced the exact same thing with Discover and am now getting the media involved. Discover is going to be very sorry they messed with me. BTW....the so-called-consumer-advocacy office is anything but. That is the exact office that refuses to provide any proof whatsoever that I agreed to a pmt protection plan. My blood is boiling!
4. Written by Rick Vaughn, 3-5-10, on 05-03-2010 16:39 I just got off the phone with both an account manager and asked to speak with her supervisor. Her name is Amber and I don't recall the so called supervisor's name, but all he said he could do was credit my account for the past 7 months. I said that I never agreed to this protection plan and that it has been going on since January of 09. He said the same thing as all of you have been saying. I can give you 7 months credit or in 2-4 weeks, you will receive a letter in the mail with a phone number to call to hear a recording. I said that I have been a customer for almost 25 years and can't believe what you people are doing. I said that I am going to write a letter to corporate and I want to hear the tape that says I agreed with this protection plan. I'm thinking of calling the media. I'm also in favor of a law suit against Discover. I pay my monthly bill in full every month. I am also on disability.
5. Written by KG, on 25-02-2010 09:33 Same thing happened to us. We filed a complaint with the BBB but so far Discover isn't backing down. If you want to contact them here is some info: Mark A. Iplenski, Executive Office of Customer Advocacy. His phone is 302-328-3300 but don't expect to ever reach him, however an operator will answer. I'm all for a class action suit.
6. Written by Deb G., on 05-02-2010 19:19 I was "hit" by this scam also! I've been going back and forth with this horribly rude man at Discover since August 2009, trying to get this straightened out. He's quite smug about it all, too. I just hope "The Law of Karma" hits him so hard, he never recovers. I hope he gets ripped off for 10 times the amount that all of us put together have been ripped off by Discover Card.

8. Written by Elizabeth M., on 27-01-2010 05:04 We should file a Class Action against Discover Card - Payment Protection Plan... First of all, I did not even sign anything.. I called September 2009 to cancel it immediately after I learnt that I was automatically signed since I did not reply to say no after I received the package. So, I said to myself, ok... it would let that one go so went ahead to pay for that month, but asked to cancel immediately. I was told it was canceled. Then, in November, it was still there. I called again... I was told the same thing. Since there was no record of me cancelling it, I had to pay for sept, oct, and nov. No confirmation number, whatever, they said a confirmation letter will be sent to me in a few days... cannot even email to me to confirm I asked to cancel. Now, it comes Jan 2010. the charge is still there!!! I called again, I was again told the same thing. When I called, they always said there was no record of me calling,. No, the new excuse was it was my fault that I might have call the discover main 800 number because call would not get recorded even i was routed over from the general Discover customer service. No way of confimation, what so ever. They refused to give me any reference number, no follow up call can be made, nothing! I have had discover card for many years, with probably a couple of years without it. The lady named Joanne, namely the supervisor, said she filed dispute and tried to get my money back. I am going to give it one week. If no satisfactory result, I must say goodbye to Discover card forever, and try my best to share the deceptive practice of this Protection Payment Plan. It is like a pesticide that once latched on you, you could not get rid of it even when you tried. I'm sure I'm not the only one... I may seek for Class Action against this. I want to file a class action against discover card!!!
9. Written by PISSED OFF, on 18-01-2010 16:34 The same thing is happening to me right now. I have been charged over 400$ worth of payment protection plan that i never agreed on. They also said they will review the tapes and let me know in 6-8 weeks. I have a feeling i'm not getting my refund back. This is bullshit.
10. Written by ailgogni, on 13-01-2010 13:25 Same story here... Just cancelled my Discover Card after many years of being a loyal customer. Payment Protection services is not even a Discover Financial Services company, they just operate deceivingly in their name. My call went very similarly to one of the posts herein, where a bunch of things were said and promised which were a lie, then the recording was started. I realized after three months (yes my mistake, but I was a good Discover card customer so the transactions were amongst many others). I called them to inquire about the charges and to request a refund and cancel the service. They did nothing and two months later I realized they were still charging me. At this point I was furious and stayed on the phone with Discover card and also went online to dispute each individual charge in writing. 1) Shame to Payment protection Services for the deceiving marketing and business practices which are offered essentially to people that are already having trouble financially or have high card balances 2) Even more shame to Discover Financial Services in Wilmington DE, for being associated with such a deceiving, contriving, scrooges that go after people with financial problems. Discover card does NOT stay behind their customers instead they stand behind such a shameless company that operates in their name. 3) I have cancelled my Discover Card account after some 25 years, I tried to talk with account managers and managers on duty at Discover Financial Services, the only thing they would offer as a next step for me is to subpoena the recording of the conversation, which is a partial recording. Yes they know already they only record the part of the conversation that records someone's agreement. Ok so that would cost me even more money to subpoena the recording and they have it already worked out in their favor. 4) The address for Discover Card Executive Office of Consumer Advocacy is as follows: PO BOX 17019 WILMINGTON, DE, 19850-7019 If everyone on this list sends their complaints to this address maybe at least Discover Card and its affiliates will stop stealing money from other customers. 5) If anyone is interested in starting a Class Suit against Discover card, it sounds like there will be plenty of people interested in participating. 6) My next steps: a) Write to the Discover Card Executive Office of Customer Advocacy b) File a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau for deceiving business and marketing practices against Discover Card and Payment Protection Services. c) Contact Philadelphia Inquirer to solicit an article and some investigation of this matter d) Email anyone on my email list and other email lists of the devious practices of these two companies and request everyone cancel their accounts with Discover Card. OK SO WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS SCAM??
